Chris has been making pots since 1987, when he discovered a passion for ceramics while studying East Asian Studies at Princeton University. A two year apprenticeship in Japan followed, during which Chris was introduced to many Japanese techniques and styles as well as wood firing.
Thirty years on, at Chris’s workshop at Trebyan Forge near Lanhydrock, the Japanese influence is still very evident in his work. In recent years this has included plates, bowls and cups for chef Nathan Outlaw’s restaurants in Rock and Port Isaac. Chris has a real dedication to discovery in ceramics, and the rainbow of coloured glazes he uses is the result of years of testing and firing in the pursuit of something new.
